Well, it’s been an interesting trip. I’m writing this on my flight back to the deep dark cold from the warm embrace of Southern Texas. Ok, it’s not really THAT cold, but I heard that it was 27 F this morning at home and it was almost 70 F when I left the hotel in Houston this morning, not matter how you cut it, it’s going to feel cold.
Had a good trip, I’ve mentioned the BMT graduation, that was a great time. Then I went to Houston and worked for three days, it was only supposed to be 2, but it turned into three, that’s not bad for the ole pocket book, I’ll take it!
Then I headed down to Corpus Christi to see the Putz’s, that was a great time, they are a wonderful couple and I felt very much at home with them. While I was there Putz took me to a parking spot just off the runway where the flight students from the NAS do their touch and goes, I could’ve sat there for hours watching the T-44s (King Air C-90’s to us civilians) doing their rounds. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Eventually it was time to go to the base and actually get to go near the planes, got some cool
pics, even got to sit in the left seat! Check me out! I have to admit my whole body was electric, I was so excited and just buzzing to be in a plane again (even if that plane was just sitting in a hangar). I can tell you that it brought back some memories of being at the hangar in Ft. Monroe, Virginia looking at the planes Dad used to fly, hard for me to believe that I can remember that far back, I was 4 or 5 then. After hanging on the flight line for a bit we went to see a winging ceremony, new pilots receiving their official designation as aviators, it was really neat to see, I didn’t know any of the people, but I have an idea of what will be happening for Putz in a few weeks, so that was cool. It was kind of emotional for me as I wanted to be any one of those people, ok, not really be them, but I want their commission and their wings. There is not much more to spark some introspective thoughts than seeing a bunch of people fulfilling your dream. It was a neat ceremony and I was pleased to be there and see it, it’s a big day.
Saturday Putz and I went down to the beach and drove for a few miles, got out and took some pictures and just generally chilled. It was fun. Then we met up with Amy, did some shopping and chilling and eventually it was time for me to head north. Now I’m REALLY headed north.
Thanks for a good time Texas and Putz’s, I had a good time with you both (yes, even you Texas) I don’t hate Texas anymore, it’s just not in my top 10 states list (but it is climbing!).
Peace, Love, Beer,
BS
