Detroit Rock City…
So, on Sunday, October 7th I headed out to Minneapolis, I was to visit my buddy Josh and work for the week, I think I’ll still get to see Josh, but it’s a little after 5 AM and I’m at the Detroit airport. I spent the night in the Detroit last night, we had, what the airlines like to call, a little bit of a “maintenance problem” with our aircraft. This caused us to be able to make it as far as Detroit and then we passengers were scattered to the wind.
It’s not as bad as I make it sound, I’m sure we were never in much danger, the part that was annoying was that the pilot told us that we would be transferred to another plan and flown to Minneapolis. Turns out they routed us to other carriers or through other cities. Some folks had to fly to place like Charlotte, North Carolina and then to Minneapolis. I was routed through Cleveland, Ohio and then to Minneapolis, but the flight to Cleveland was delayed an hour so I couldn’t make the connection. Northwest paid for me to spend the night and gave me some money for food and such, that was cool. Just annoying that they told us one thing and did something different. Ya know?
Anyway, I’ve been up since 3:45 EST and I’m tired already and it’s not even 5:30 yet! I have to teach today, which has its own set of annoyances, I can’t just sit in a server room and be mindless, I have to be somewhat amusing. HA! Off to the races….
Peace, Love, Beer,
BS

Oh please, being amusing is what BS does best! Enjoy being with people. BTW I think you did a great job the last time "I" saw you teach oh wayyyyyyyy back when.
You know, someday I need to come out of my anonymous state. hmmm.
So you had to "divert" for a maintenance problem. Even if it was minor, its not like the plane can pull over on the side of the road to fix something. I think that it was probably a good thing to land in Detroit even if it was annoying to have to get rerouted.
anon - yeah? you think I'm amusing? thanks! :-)
kputty - As far as I can tell, it went down as a canceled flight and then a new one to Detroit. The issue was found after pulling back from the gate and before taking flight, so I don't believe it went down as a diversion. According to the pilot the issue was in the system that runs the "de-icing" on the wing and there were no clouds in Detroit, yet a cloudy approach into Minneapolis. At any rate, safe is best. :-)
If you don't take off then it just a canceled flight. Ice on the wings is not a good thing. First you lose the lift the wing makes and second the weight of the ice can add up. I can give you more details later if need be. Thanks for the info.
